In their years of landscape design experience, George and Brian Kay have been bothered by designers and contractors who force their designs on their customers, making all of the jobs look like they came from a cookie cutter. The Kays prefer to determine how their clients’ yards are used, what their clients enjoy, and the feel of the home and neighborhood and to develop a personalized plan their clients will love. Beauty and logic are equally important to the Kays, and they carry that theme throughout the book, showing through photographs, landscape plans, and insightful text how the two can be combined in any landscape. They emphasize natural elements as part of the construction and reinforce the ideas that designs of yards and gardens should reflect their owners’ sensibilities and their use of outdoor areas. Key to the book are before and after shots of the authors’ past projects. These makeover images show how a drab but serviceable landscape can be beautifully and logically improved to reflect the owners and add zest and value to their homes.
